Sorley MacLean
Sorley MacLean and Hugh MacDiarmid on Whalsay in 1935. The two poets met for the first time in early 1934 when Sorley MacLean was still completing his studies at Moray House Teachers’ Training College. By 1934 MacDiarmid was already interested in Gaelic poetry and in particular that of the 18th-century Jacobite poet Alasdair Mac Mhaighstir Alasdair (Alexander MacDonald). (The MacLean family)
